What is a Heat Shield?

A heat shield is a barrier designed to protect certain automobile components from the heat generated by the engine and exhaust system. These shields can consist of different materials depending on whether they are designed to reflect, absorb, or dissipate heat, but ultimately, they all contribute in some way to longer engine life, improved engine performance, and greater operator safety.

The core function of ACS’s patented One Piece Isolator is to affix a heat shield to various components in the engine compartment or exhaust system (i.e. manifold, turbo-charger, catalytic converter etc.) while adding a layer of NVH protection.

Compressed knitted mesh is able to operate in areas of high temperatures that exceed the range of most elastomers offering superior resiliency and dampening qualities for NVH applications. Historically, heat shield isolator manufacturers would mechanically fasten two washers to each end of a knitted mesh eyelet in order to secure it to the heatshield. Many manufacturers experienced significant problems with these parts falling off in transit, which could erode production efficiency and increase scrap.

Our patented design forms the knitted mesh to the heat shield, making it very hard to remove so that the parts arrive at the place of final assembly intact and ready for use. This level of conformity helps reduce scrap and facilitates automation for our clients and their customers in turn.
